As he paced, he cast curious glances at the fine houses circling the square. He had a good reason for keeping the body where it lay—he was hoping someone would come and claim the girl. So far, the occupants of the great houses, save the Prendegast’s, were disinterested in this little scene. Surely if she belonged to one of the others, and had failed to be found in her bed, a servant or such might be lured by what went on here and come to investigate.

A cart rumbled near and he glanced at it in annoyance. He had little time to gather his facts before the body collector would demand to claim his cargo. He gritted his teeth. Expedience had its places. At the scene of death wasn’t one of them.

Remember, I love and appreciate comments. Thank you so much for visiting.

  1. Love how he’s purposefully waiting for looky-loo’s. The second sentence jarred me from the story, I think he hoping should be reworded or is a typo or something.
